I can remember being a 10 year old rushing to hit record on my tape player boombox to make sure I could catch the beginning of my favorite radio hits, since then I’ve been a huge proponent of the mixtape. Later that evolved to mix CDs for car rides to and from high school, to iPod playlists, then to Spotify.
In what feels like a full circle moment, I’ve been recording some live vinyl mixes culled from my ever growing collection… There is something about the live nature of the recording process of these, the high stakes of transitioning from song to song well, the constraints of using only music I personally own, and the pleasant imperfections of the vinyl medium itself that speak to me. I am happy to share that experience with you.
